Chiswick

Project

Chiswick

Since the property is in a location which appeals generally to young families, I had to make sure that even the smallest bedrooms were well laid out.

This property had not been touched in over 30 years although any works undertaken had been completely botched (for example a fireplace in one of the bedrooms had no support underneath and was literally hanging so could have collapsed at any point). I have attached a couple of photos of what it looked like beforehand.

The result was a successful re-sale which included the incoming purchaser buying the entire contents of the house down to every candle stick holder!

The project included obtaining planning permission to add a loft conversion and a side return to the rear ground floor. I then went through the whole process of obtaining party wall agreements, building regulations and then the actual demolishing and re-building of the rear ground floor and the second floor of the house. The works included full re-wiring, full re-plumbing, redesigning the layout of the entire ground floor and second floor to make the most of every inch of the space.

Highlights

I believe this is our legacy for our children and our grandchildren to inherit these properties. I live in a Victorian house now, the most important thing about it for me is to really make sure that it’s in keeping with the period. I make sure that anything I do to the house is in keeping so that for future generations they can appreciate this style.

Victorian properties and period properties which are so beautiful need to be kept in keeping with their original design.
